Canada Government gathers and releases crime data at both province and national levels. In order to understand the location of your business and assess your location crime risk, please follow the following steps:
- Go to the Statistics Canada website HERE, click on the latest 'Crime severity index ...' article and search for your business area to view relevant data.
- In AMLA, we assess the risk level of four types of predicate offences: Deceptive Crime, Illicit Trafficking, Personal Crimes and Property Crimes. However, the Canadian government does not report crimes by type. Canada has the crime severity index (CSI) which is a measure of crime seriousness and the volume of crimes. A higher CSI indicates a higher chance of a crime happening in that district and a more severe crime may take place in that area. Hence by comparing the CSI among different districts and regions, you'll be able to get a brief idea of your local crime risk.
- For visualisation of the crime data in metropolitan areas, you can visit the websites below:
For your reference, there is also a third-party website available HERE which provides rankings for Canada’s most dangerous places of the year.
